Our Mission Statement

“To improve the lives of young people as well as to enable, educate and empower them to become productive, rational and responsible adults through the support of positive role models”

Background

Shaathi Mentoring project was set up and established in 2002. The mentoring Project implements an early intervention approach in working with “hard to reach” and “dis – engaged” young people from the BME (Black, Minority and Ethnic Groups). Many of these young people have been identified as being at “risk” of becoming excluded from mainstream services such as education, training and employment or are engaged in anti social behaviour and criminality.

The project is currently serving the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, operating in one of the most deprived and disadvantaged boroughs of the UK. The project looks to address and support young people who have many different issues and barriers they face in their day to day life.

By providing a positive mentor to young people referred to the project, they have positive role model and an adult who is independent and someone they can approach and look for support, guidance, comfort and to socialise with.

Shaathi Mentoring project is a Voluntary project that works with and alongside mainstream services such as School’s, PR, Connexions, Social Services, Youth Offending Teams and others.

The project acquired the Approved Provider Standard (APS) in 2006 and Investing in Volunteers (IIV status in 2008).
